Basic Sentence Structure

Today we began talking about the basic structure of sentences.  We decided that most sentences follow one of five basic patterns: subject-verb, subject-verb-object, subject-verb-adjective, subject-verb-adverb, or subject-verb-noun.

Remember, the subject is usually a noun (person, place, thing, idea, or object) and the verb is an action word.  When you group the verb with the words that modify it, we call that the predicate. We will go over more of that tomorrow.

Directions: Identify the subject and verb of each sentence by writing either an S or a V above the correct word.  Then, identify each sentence’s structure by writing the three-part code from above to the right of the sentence.

    Mr. Brammer,
This is the first time, I looked up at your blog.
Well, this is quite surprising, because since I have been learning
in SPH, this is the first time for me to see a teacher, who has his own
blog for the students to show what we have learned and what we have to do.
Actually I wanted to ask you this.
Do I start to write my journal today??
    I mean 19th of August???
Well~ I will start to write today.
I don’t think that I will remember the past, so I won’t be able to write the past things in my journal.
    Thank you~

Sir, I still do not understand about predicate. Is it that thing that you said about the verb and adjective ? I asked Mr.Evans. He said, verb + adjective = phrase.
Is that true ? Or is it a predicate ?

    Thanks. God bless you.
